Communities of Practice

GAN-Net supports eight communities of practice (CoPs), each organized around a core competency that requires developing skills and new knowledge. These eight were identified through the first five years of work with GANs as competencies critical to the effectiveness of GANs.

Although the interests of GANs lead the work of GAN-Net, and GAN staff and participants are the key stakeholder group in CoPs, there are two other groups. A second is outside experts-academics, consultants, researchers-who hold and develop knowledge that is critical to GANs' development. The third group can be called GAN "promoters"-they are organizations like funders and inter-governmental organizations that want to see GANs become more effective. These three groups often are brought together in meetings, projects and communities of practice.
