Global Reporting Initiative (2007)
Authors: Halina Szejnwald Brown, Martin de Jong, Teodorina Lessidrenska
This report titled The Rise of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as a
Case of Institutional Entrepreneurship suggests that bridging the tension
between being a movement and a well-administered organization-rather than
eliminating the tension-is a key challenge to GRI's future. If GRI falls
too much on the movement side of things, it will lose its legitimacy with
business. If it falls too much on the administrative side of things, it
will become indistinguishable from rivals like the International Standards
Organization (ISO).

Global Alliance for Workers and Communities: Lessons Learned from a Multi-Stakeholder Initiative (2006)
Author: Sasha Radovich
In 1999, Nike, Gap, the International Youth Foundation, and the World Bank created
an innovative partnership called The Global Alliance for Workers and
Communities (GA), whose aim was to tackle complex labour issues in the global
manufacturing workplace. The Global Alliance was one of the first organisations to
address conditions in the factory workplace beyond compliance; that is, it aimed to
promote worker development and find sustainable solutions to labour issues in factories,
rather than focusing solely on policing factory compliance with corporate
codes of conduct. After five years working in five countries, the Alliance closed its operations on December 31, 2004. This report was prepared by AccountAbility.
